300 Miles!

gpp51015300-postersjpg

Wow! Last night Horatio reached passed 300 miles, this is incredible its been around 8o days so an average of 3.75 miles per day.  Nice!  (I apologise for my awful photoshop skills!)

3 Weeks Stats!!

imgp1504Horatio’s eyes are definitely bigger than his cheeks! Check out the picture, this carrot based biscuit treat is one of his favs and invariably he tries to get the whole thing in his cheek so he can hide it away in his house later, but he sometimes gets the angle wrong and it doesn’t quite fit.  Here it is sticking out of his mouth haha!
He’s been fighting fit - we’re so close to 300 miles now, he’ll probably pass this milestone tonight.

Anyway - I’ve neglected the site for way too long so heres the last three weeks stats!

14.03.09 21.03.09 28.03.09
Miles Travelled 16.64 22.59 29.41
Miles To Go 642.70 620.11 590.70
Average Miles Per Day 2.77 3.23 4.20
Revolutions 41,955 56,959 74,143
Weight ? ? 90g

As you can see week ending 14.03.09 was pretty poor, and one of his worst weeks so far. Here’s the distance per day over the last three weeks (notice the 13th March was 0 miles - he was running for charity this day so it has been excluded from the stats!):

weeks-9-10-11

He picked up the pace over this last week and he’s ben notably more active of late, and still as cute as ever!  There is some good news from over the pond too - Lizzie, the Hamster Across America hamster has started running again she’s passed into a new state and appears to be motoring!  Check out her progress at http://www.hamsteracrossamerica.com

I’ll try and keep on top of the stats next week.

Castles

Time flies when you’re busy writing your thesis, various presnetation and posters - Horatio has reached a staggering 291 miles! he’s rapidly approaching 300!! He recently passed through Ludlow, and being the cultured hamster that he is took time out to visit Ludlow castle!  Ludlow is a small market town in south Shropshire close to the welsh border (Horatio says he’s so close to wales can almost smell the sheep, leeks, and daffy’s!!) with a well documented history.  This castle was built in the 11th century as a border stronghold and played a role throughout history.

And now the histroy books can be adjusted, for in 2009, Horatio “the hamster” Caine visited the castle and left his smelly mark.  Shame on you Horatio!

So Sorry!!

It’s been such a busy week for me at work - I haven’t had chance to update the site or even do the weekly stats!  I promise I will do a two week summary on Sunday.

For now here is a little video of Horatio, showing some of the magic behind the scenes!

He Pulled Through

Haha - classic Horatio, he pulled through at the last minute and put in a respectable 2.95 miles on RND (rounded up to 3 miles of course!) so we have raised £110 - pretty impressive I think.  All those kind people who sponsored him will recieve emails over the weekend telling you your final total and where to pay!  All those who haven’t sponsored - it isn’t too late! Get over to his page here and sponsor him!  Thanks so much everyone!!

Never Work With Children or HAMSTERS

dsc00423It’s like he knows we need him to run his furthest ever or something!  He usually does all his running in the small hours but last night he managed a MEASLY 0.35 miles!  Doesn’t he know we’re trying to raise money for Comic Relief?

He really needs more sponsorship now - if he doesn’t get running before midnight we could see the total raised plummet to around £30 (down from a potential £130)!  Go here!

Sponsor Horatio & New Webcam!

It’s getting close - red nose day is almost upon us!  Sponsor Horatio here

To mark the occasion we’ve finally got a new webcam! You can actually see what’s going on now.  We’re leaving the light on so he’ll be running all night and you lucky people in a different time zone will be able to catch a glimpse of him running! Check the regular “Horatio Live” page or the comic relief site here

Catch That Cheese

Instead of his goal of John O’Groats all Horatio could think about last night was running after a big round of CHEESE. Cooper’s Hill near Gloucester is location for the famous cheese rolling event which takes place every year.  The Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake features a round of Double Gloucester cheese, which is thrown down the hill, the competitors chase the cheese and the 1st to cross the line wins it!  The cheese travels at up to 70mph, and in 1997 the cheese hit a spectator and knocked him to the floor, but it’s more dangerous for the competitors - More than one race takes place, and in 2005 subsequent races were delayed as they had to wait for the ambulances to return form transporting casualties to the hospital after earlier races.

Horatio was no such wimp, he chased that god damn cheese like a champion, and with no injuries crossed the line triumphantly! That cheese should keep him going for a few years!

It’s red nose day tomorrow! So all Horatio’s UK fans need to get over to http://www.hamsterhike.co.uk/rnd and sponsor him!!

Weekly Stats (07.03.09)

Miles Travelled: 21.37
(Last Week: 26.11)

Miles To Go: 659.35
(Last Week: 680.72)

(Last Week: 3.73)

(Last Week: 85g)

The stats are way down this week (he did his 1st sub 2 mile day; 1.8 miles on Wednesday), not too sure why, but he managed a 5.6 mile day yesterday so I don’t think he’s giving up just yet!! Here’s his daily break down:

week8

He’s getting noticeably bigger these days, which might me why he is slowing down a little.

I must apologize, we didn’t do much posting on the blog last week, mainly due to Horatio being in between interesting places! But I hope next week will be a little more exciting!  We had a visit from the editor at Petstreet today who shot some video of me and Horatio, so hopefully that will be going up on Petstreet soon.

We’ve raised over £100 (potentially) for comic relief - but need more sponsors!! Click here to make your pledge.  If he only runs 2 miles on red nose day this figure could halve so we REALLY need your donations.

MMMMMange Tout

Horatio enjoyed a little fresh veg tonight in the form of Mange Tout and Carrots, here are some cute pics of him as he hoarded it all into his house and had a sneaky munch!

i can see you eyeing up my mmmmmange tout, and you don’t stand a chance mate!  This thing will be gone quicker than you can say Hamster Hike

Lets see if these greens give him some energy for the big push out of the south west of England!
